This is a long term contract opportunity for a Business Unit Economist/Business Planner in our Maersk Oil Houston office.

This is an individual contributor role.
We Offer
You will be responsible for carrying out investment analysis of Maersk Oil projects in the Business Unit. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a team together with geologists, engineers, lawyers and external advisors. You will also play a large role in the integration of internal processes, including reserves and resources (MOCRMS), long finance, rolling forecasts, and business outlooks. You will be based in Maersk Oil’s Houston office with a close relation to the Copenhagen-based Maersk Oil & Gas HQ Economics and Business Planning departments. Occasional business travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities
ECONOMICS
•Working with the finance and reservoir engineering departments to make necessary updates to development planning business simulation models
•Development of methods and systems to facilitate analysis of complex investment scenarios
•Analysis and assessment of fiscal regimes and taxation issues
•Evaluation of contracts and their economic and commercial impact, including commercial contracts for oil and gas export economics in the U.S., which includes working closely with crude oil/gas marketers
•Review and quality check of fiscal and economic models used in reserves and resources evaluation
•Participation in Partner meetings with projects partners to obtain latest production and costing data for integration into economic models
•Coordination with Maersk Oil & Gas HQ Economics Team

FINANCIAL PLANNING
•Preparation of Investment Proposals for projects that meet Maersk Oil’s investment criteria and growth strategy
•Participation in the annual Strategic and Business Planning processes for Maersk Oil Houston. Provision and facilitation of integration, alignment and reconciliation of data between reserves and resources, long finance, rolling forecasts, and business outlooks
•Close coordination with finance team by providing quarterly forecast data, and support for impairment analysis, tax planning and ad hoc projects
•Participation in and performance of reserves and resource evaluations consistent with corporate guidelines

BUSINESS PLANNING & PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
•Preparing and facilitating performance reviews for the Leadership Team by collecting and validating financial and non-financial performance metrics
•Coordinating with local Leadership Team the development of quarterly production and earnings reporting to Global Operations, including variance analysis and long-term forecasting
•Leading the development of the annual Business Performance Contract, which includes discussions with the Leadership Team where the near-term goals for the organization are decided upon and appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Milestones are selected
•Creating and maintaining the Business Unit dashboard, reporting progress to corporate and providing updates for the local organization
•Driving the business planning cycle and underlying processes, including managing the development of the local strategy document and long-term financial forecast
•Driving ad-hoc tasks and projects which result in processes, procedures, tools and deliverables to enhance team performance and encourage continuous improvement (e.g. actions/issues tracking logs, benchmarking, rationalizing team meeting, terms of reference, etc.)
•Coordination with Maersk Oil & Gas HQ Business Planning Team
Who we are looking for
EDUCATION
•Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in finance or economics, or alternatively have a technical background e.g. engineering supplemented with extensive past exposure to financial and economic disciplines
•Preferred: MBA or Master’s degree

EXPERIENCE
•5-7 years relevant experience
•Oil and Gas experience a must
•Experience with capital projects
•Ability to thrive in a changing work environment and ability to help others manage change
•Superior communication skills
•Upstream background and offshore experience a plus
•A proven performance record, strong analytical skills, intercultural skills, and good interpersonal skills
•Strong coordination skills and teamwork capabilities as well as a passion to analyze and communicate beyond just the financial numbers that captures management audiences
•Commercial capability and acumen
•Comfortable with short deadlines and the ability to timely deliver a quality product
